Statues to Live By
What is Statues to Live By?
Springville’s Statues to Live By program includes over 50 bronze sculptures located throughout the city, most of which are accessible along The Art Loops. This collection of community treasures began with commissioned pieces in the early 1900s as part of the Springville Art Movement, resulting in the placement of Cyrus E. Dallin’s Victory Memorial and Pioneer Mother. The program significantly expanded in the 1980’s and 90’s under Mayor Delora Bertelsen, who, in collaboration with community members and the Springville Museum of Art, commissioned dozens of new pieces over a period of several years. The sculptures weave a story of life in Springville, honoring our community’s values, citizens and culture. Today, this legacy program is managed by the Museum of Art, and is a perfect example of Springville’s consistent commitment to integrating art into everyday life. Providing fresh context and connection, The Art Loops breathe new life into these public sculptures, which have been part of our city’s creative spirit for many years.
