A Living History

The Art Loops are integrated into the Springville Historic District, a highly concentrated area of well-preserved historic buildings and residential structures. The District encompasses Springville’s original townsite, which was founded in 1849 by Mormon pioneers and initially dubbed “Hobble Creek.” Springville was renamed in 1853 for its many fresh water springs, while the local canyon stream retains its original name.

Springville’s Historic District is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places, featuring over 900 original structures that represent a range of architectural styles including Victorian, Prairie School, Art Deco and more. It features important City landmarks that are still in operation today, such as the Springville Museum of Art and Presbyterian Church, as well as residential sites that showcase the talent of early craftsman and laborers while preserving the stories of founding community members.

The Art Loops trace this history, highlighting enduring architecture and prominent landmarks throughout the journey. Origin stories are expanded upon through adjacent artworks such as murals and public sculpture, reframing our perspective of Springville’s past while drawing connections to the present.
